GROUND WORK COLLECTIVE’S #X_CHANGE VOTER REGISTRATION CAMPAIGN SET TO GET BACK ON THE GROUND REGISTERING VOTERS ACROSS GAUTENG

Ground Work Collective (GWC) is excited to announce the expansion of the successful #X_Change voter registration and civic education campaign to in-person activation locations across Gauteng. This leg of the campaign follows both the KwaZulu-Natal phase, and later the nationwide rollout of the campaign via our SA-first online voter registration portal, where thousands of South Africans have not only registered to vote but have won prizes for exercising this civic duty. The Gauteng leg of the campaign will roll out in-person activations at institutions of higher learning, shopping malls and community centers to reach more and more of the young eligible yet unregistered young people.

The #X_Change campaign has thus far seen thousands of young people engaged through our vibrant and exciting activations where they not only registered to vote, but also won instant spot prizes and stood a chance to win double tickets to our #X_Change Concert Xperience held at the Werehouse in Durban last year, headlined by leading South African musical acts. This latest phase of the campaign will see thousands more newly registered not only win more spot prizes (meal, Superbalist, and Shoprite vouchers), but also stand the chance to win an intimate #X_Change Music Experience with leading South African musical artists, Musa Keys, Shekhinah, and Pabi Cooper.

IEC data has shown, other than the 14 million young people that we know are eligible yet unregistered to vote, that the voter registration rates are particularly low in urban areas, which are the areas we will be targeting during this leg of the campaign, both in person across Gauteng, and online across the country via our digital portal.

Below are the locations where #X_Change will be over the next month.

How does the #X_Change Portal work?

Our #X_Change voter registration digital portal is designed to replicate the on the ground experience from our #X_Change activations, and puts the incentive-based user experience right in the palm of your hands via your phone.

  • An unregistered voter goes onto the #X_Change registration portal (https://gwcvoterregistration.co.za/),
  • Registers their information securely on the portal and on the IEC portal (where they can also check the status of their registration),
  • And in a first-of-its-kind in South Africa, once they are registered and their registration confirmed, they will win an instant prize as a reward for this important civic action.
  • Once registered, GWC will then be able to share informative, digestible, and fun civic education materials with newly registered voters that will empower them to be the active and civically minded citizens that know how to hold elected officials accountable and to make their government work for them.
