Hanyani Wellness and Fitness programme goes to Soweto

Following successful stops of the Hanyani Health and Wellness programme in the Westrand and Tshwane, this week’s exciting edition on Saturday 05 December 2020, heads to Meadowlands Zone3 in Soweto, next to Kol Café.

The 4hour programme from 7-11am will be led by MEC for sport, arts, culture and recreation, Mbali Hlophe on recreational activities including fun walks, aerobics, yoga, jogging and more.

Hanyani Health and Wellness is an initiative of the Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation to keep Gauteng active and to promote healthy and active lifestyle within communities across the province.

It was launched in February this year and since its resumption under lockdown level 1, has taken to communities and supporting existing recreation programmes to keep going.

Amid elevated health risks from preventable lifestyle diseases (and aggravated by the recent Covid19 pandemic), more Gauteng people have been increasingly realising the need to keep fit, healthy and active. This has seen an increased number of people participate in marathons, fun-runs, boot-camps and recently the various virtual exercise programs.

Says MEC Hlophe; “It is important for us to keep fit and healthy now more than ever, where health is truly wealth as we battle a global health pandemic. We are encouraged to see more people taking a liking in activities including hiking, walking, and running. Exercising and keeping fit and healthy strengthens our immune system and makes the heart happy.

“The Gauteng Provincial Government aims to build the Hanyani Health and Wellness programme into a movement that will turn Gauteng into a healthy and active recreational space where everyone will have a chance participate in a range of fitness activities and bringing professional instructors and facilitators to communities, says MEC Hlophe.
