1 July 2021 – SAFA President Dr Danny Jordaan has praised Northern Cape and SAFA Siyanda Region President, Ms Emma Hendricks for bringing First Division football to the Province.
Hungry Lions from Postmasburg in Siyanda Region, sealed its promotion to the National First Division after pipping Mangaung Unite 5-4 in a tense penalty shoot. The match had ended 2-2 in normal time and penalties had to decide the ultimate winner and a place in paid ranks of the NFD.
Hungry Lions will now meet Platinum City Rovers in the final on Saturday to determine the overall winner of this year’s play offs.
“Congratulations to the Northern Cape and President of the Region where Hungry Lions comes from, Ms Emma Hendricks. You brought First Division and professional football to Northern Cape. This is a dream come true for the Province,” said Dr Jordaan

In another match, Platinum City Rovers from the North West beat Western Cape’s Glendene United 3-0 on penalties after a tight semi-final match had ended goalless in normal time.
The final of the ABC Motsepe National play-offs will be played on Saturday, 3 July 2021 at Mbombela Stadium.
