Bidvest Wits head coach Gavin Hunt admits his side were poor during the crucial 1-0 victory over Maritzburg United on Sunday afternoon. The Students edged past the Team of Choice thanks to a second-half header from midfielder Phumlani Ntshangase, in a rather uninspired Premiership encounter against Fadlu Davids side at the Bidvest Stadium.
However, the three points moved Hunt just three games away from securing his fourth league title and the Clever Boys maiden crown.
“We were poor today,” he said after the game. “The legs of my players have gone. I told them at halftime that a set-piece would decide the game.
“It was not pretty football, but what can I expect from my team after so many matches in the past eight weeks. I need a cold beer.”
Wits travel to Goble Park this Wednesday for their next league encounter to face relegation threatened Free State Stars.
