It’s all systems go for the much anticipated Orlando Pirates/Kaizer Chiefs derby taking place at FNB stadium this afternoon . Coaches have spoken, current players have revealed their wish- full thinking score predictions, both teams legends have made their prognostic predictions, soccer pundits have also predicted and prophesized.
The big question is who will emerge victorious since there will be 11 players each side and majority of them will be featuring in their first time derby spectacle match.
Egolijozinews conducted an informal snap survey in township taverns about who will win today.
Majority people have given thumbs up to Bucs while others reserved their comments and instead opted to say it’s going to be a nail- biting clash of the titans.
At a recent Midweek Bucs Sponsorship announcement, Bucs midfielder Thabiso Monyane told the media he was looking forward to play for his team in his first derby match.
“After back to back clean sheets, we should come out on top after this match.”
Bucs Number one Keeper, Richard Ofori, said it’s the club’s first derby match in front of the full capacity fans following the devastating Covid-19 pandemic that barred them from attending matches for two seasons.
“We know how important a win is for us. The bonus is the fans will bring the game up.”
Bucs Coach, Jose Riveiro, tactfully responded to questions fielded by the media.
“Its one of the match everyone has been waiting for. Its time to see players shining and not thinking about Chiefs dominance. This is a new story, new chapter and both teams have new coaches and technical teams. We will try and dominate the game.”
Innocent Maela, Bucs Captain, said it’s a big occasion most especially for the fans.
“I will perfom to the best of my ability and my teammates will be there to support each other.”
Amakhosi Coach, Arthur Zwane told the packed media this is one game we would like to win for our families, players and for myself since it’s the first derby match for me as coach.
“We are playing a team that is doing well but when we meet it will be a different ball game.
“Its one of the big games but we need to relax.”
Pressed about his recent utterances that sometimes Chiefs need divine intervention to win matches.
He said, “Prayer is everthing and maybe luck in terms of scoring goals. You create your own luck by working hard.”
Chiefs winger and attacking midfielder, Keagan Dolly said, “We have a job to do on the day. We know Bucs is a good team but on the field of play its 11 against 11.”
