If you are not familiar with the new street names in the city centre, you could find yourself lost or off-track. This comes after major street names were renamed by the city council last month in honour of women leaders .
The event also saw the unveiling of monumental sculpture named ‘Democracy is Dialogue’ at Beyers Naude Square in Newtown.
Joburg Mayor, Parks Tau said at the time, “Today we are unveiling a new sculpture to paying tribute to women who were drivers of social political change in our country.” He further urged communities to also play a big role in researching and preserving our history.

The following streets have been renamed.
• LilianNgoyi Street – formerly Bree Street.
• RahimaMoosa Street – formerly Jeppe Street.
• Helen Joseph Street – previously President Street.
• Sophie de Bruyn Street – previously Noord Street.
