LEOPARDS FIGHT BACK WITH LATE EQUALIZER

  • 25 OCT 2019

Black Leopards held SuperSport United to a 2-2 draw in an Absa Premiership match at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Friday night.

The draw saw Matsatsantsa move up to fifth place on the league standings, while Lidoda Duvha also climbed up to 10th spot.

Lidoda Duvha dominated the opening stages of the match, but they could not seriously test Matsatsantsa goalkeeper Ronwen Williams.

The hosts grew in confidence as the match progressed and they managed to break the deadlock just after the half-hour mark.

Aubrey Modiba was the man, who finished off a beautiful team goal to make it 1-0 to SuperSport much to the delight of the home crowd.

However, Leopards pushed forward in numbers and they were awarded a corner-kick a few minutes before halftime.

Chris Katjiukua hit the back of the net from the resultant corner-kick to make it 1-1 heading to the halftime break.

SuperSport applied some pressure on Leopards after the restart as they looked to restore their lead with coach Kaitano Tembo having introduced Sipho Mbule.

The South Africa under-23 international was involved when the hosts made it 2-1 through Thamsanqa Gabuza in the 61st minute.

The Lidoda Duvha attack which was led by last season’s Absa Premiership Golden Boot winner Mwape Musonda pushed for a late equalising goal.

The visitors’ late pressure paid off as they were awarded a penalty and Petjie Zulu converted it to ensure that Leopards held SuperSport to a 2-2 draw on the night.
