Maritzburg United and Platinum Stars shared the spoils in a 0-0 draw at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Wednesday evening, with both sides ending the Absa Premiership clash with 10 men.

Kwanda Mngonyama and Khulekani Madondo received their marching orders in the second half of what was a clash that conjured little goal-scoring opportunities at either end of the pitch.

Heading into the clash in good form on home soil, Team of Choice captain Kurt Lentjies forced goalkeeper Mbongeni Mzimela into a top save with three minutes on the clock.

Andrea Fileccia was next to go close for the hosts as the Belgian forward hammered his attempt over the crossbar.

Dikwena on the other hand offered little in attack with Cavin Johnson’s men having eased their relegation woes with a vital home win over Highlands Park last week.

Fadlu Davids introduced the attacking duo of Mohau Mokate and Evans Rusike after the interval, but they failed to provide the desired effect.

In the end the clash would be remembered for a brawl which resulted in Mngonyama and Madondo red carded for their involvement in the 73rd minute of the match.

Maritzburg tighten their grip on a top-eight finish despite the draw, the point moving them four points clear of Ajax Cape Town while Dikwena remain 11th.
