MATSATSANTSA HOLD CITY IN SIX-GOAL THRILLER

SuperSport United held Cape Town City to a 3-3 draw in a thrilling Absa Premiership match at the Mbombela Stadium on Saturday night.

The draw saw Matsatsantsa climb up to fourth place on the league standings, while the Citizens moved up to the eighth spot.

Matsatsantsa got off to a flying start as they broke the deadlock through Sipho Mbule as early as the sixth minute.

Bradley Grobler set-up the South Africa under-23 international, who beat City goalkeeper Peter Leeuwenburgh to make it 1-0 to SuperSport from inside the box.

However, the lead only lasted for three minutes as the Citizens hit back through Thabo Nodada, who scored with a clinical finish to make it 1-1.

It was end-to-end stuff as City took the lead for the first time on the night after a quick counter-attack by Benni McCarthy’s charges in the 18th minute.

South Africa international Kermit Erasmus beat his national teammate Ronwen Williams in the SuperSport goal-posts with a brilliant header to make it 2-1 to City.

The hosts continued to attack and they managed to restore parity through the Absa Premiership Player of the Month for August 2019, Grobler.

The lethal striker pounced and hit the back of the following a defensive error by the visitors to make it 2-2 seven minutes before the half-hour mark.

The two teams were locked at 2-2 following an enthralling first-half in Nelspruit.

Another entertaining half followed as the Citizens took the lead for the second time on the night and it was Nodada, who marked his return from an injury with a brace.

The midfield maestro beat Williams to make it 3-2 to City after some impressive persistence by the former MTN8 champions.

However, the lead lasted for 11 minutes as Matsatsantsa fought back and levelled matters through Thamsanqa Gabuza.

The hard-working marksman turned his marker before beating Dutch shot-stopper Leeuwenburgh to make it 3-3 as Kaitano Tembo’s men displayed their fighting spirit.

The two teams continued to attack each other in search of more goals, but they could not score in the closing stages of the match and ultimately, SuperSport and City drew 3-3 on the night.
