MAYOR MORERO ENLISTS SCORES OF CEO’S FOR HISTORIC CLEAN CTY RENAISSANCE

Executive Mayor Councillor Dada Morero has launched a three-day CEO-City Partnership Programme, mobilising scores of Joburg’s captains of industry to drive a historic clean city renaissance.

Beginning this November, the high-impact initiative is strategically designed to forge a powerful, long-term alliance that aligns the private sector’s energy and resources with the City’s back-to-basics mandate for sustainable urban renewal and enhanced civic accountability.

The inaugural flagship activity of the CEO-City Partnership Programme – a three-day mobilisation scheduled for Wednesday, 12 to Friday, 14 November – aims to integrate business acumen directly into the municipality’s core service delivery and operational objectives.

Central to this collaboration is the unveiling of the Clean City Campaign, a unified, city-wide call to action designed to reinforce the City’s back-to-basics approach and its robust commitment to by-law enforcement. Mayor Morero framed the initiative in philosophical terms, stating it is rooted in the re-invocation of Ubuntu, the inherent civic spirit where citizens and businesses assume collective ownership of public spaces.

The high-visibility deployment is concentrated across key economic and heritage precincts. Wednesday, 12 and Thursday, 13 November, will focus on the Inner City, targeting key renewal zones such as Braamfontein’s innovation corridor and the Inner City Trade Hub. Immediate efforts will address core infrastructure failures, including waste control, lighting repairs, power stability, and road reinstatement.

The final day, Friday, 14 November, shifts focus to Soweto, with a particular emphasis on Kliptown, the birthplace of the Freedom Charter. Here, the partnership will prioritise heritage maintenance, township enterprise support, and the restoration of essential services. This physical act of labour by top executives is intended to provide visible, measurable change while establishing new, higher benchmarks for precinct management and civic pride.

By embedding private-sector leadership into the fabric of urban management, this partnership seeks to accelerate service delivery, stimulate inclusive economic growth, and rebuild public trust.
