MEET GRACE RAMADI: THE CREATIVE FORCE BEHIND JOBURG’S CORPORATE IDENTITY AND CITY BRANDING

 Tinyiko Barbara Ngobeni

Grace Ramadi is the creative mind behind the infographics, posters, and overall Corporate Identity (CI) of the City of Johannesburg. The 41-year-old Graphic Design Manager is committed to maintaining CI compliance throughout the organisation, which boasts over 30,000 employees.

Originally from Pretoria, Ramadi is one of six siblings. Rooted in a loving, faith-centred environment, her upbringing instilled resilience and the importance of nurturing family ties. After obtaining a BA in Graphic Design & Multimedia from Design School SA, now Vega, she completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing Management from IMM.

Ramadi joined the City in 2021 as a Graphic Design Manager after sharpening her skills as a Senior Graphic Designer at the SABS Design Institute. Since assuming her current role, she has faced challenges. “It would be lovely to have more designers on the team,” she says, expressing her vision for growth.

Despite the challenges, Ramadi faces the highs and lows of her role with enthusiasm. She loves seeing her designs on billboards, but also feels the stress of tight deadlines. Despite careful planning, her work often extends beyond regular hours.

When she finds the time, which is rare, she watches K-dramas, documentaries, and listens to positive podcasts. She also likes reading, music, travelling, cooking, and walking.

Her advice? “Design takes time. Please submit requests at least two weeks in advance.” Grace reminds colleagues that understanding CI is everyone’s responsibility. “When we align with the corporate identity, we strengthen the city’s brand and present a unified Johannesburg.
