English professional golfer Mimi Rhodes claimed victory at the 10th edition of the Joburg Ladies Open on Sunday, 6 April 2025.
It’s been a challenging week on the Modderfontein Golf Course with pouring rain and windy conditions, but Rhodes kept a consistent play, leading since Thursday when the R5.8 million tournament started.
Holding the trophy at the end of the three-day tournament she looked proud. “It feels incredible although it hasn’t sunk in yet. This is my second win consecutively and I got to do it in a new country that I’ve never played in. It’s given me a lot of confidence and I’m very happy,” she said after her win at the 18th hole.
Twenty-four-year-old Rhodes, who won the Ford Women’s NSW Open in Australia last week, said she worked hard for this victory. “This shows how hard work pays off in the end and everything going into building up to this. People don’t see what happens behind the scenes, but I’ve worked hard and I’m glad I could control the nerves. I’m excited for the future of golf.”
The City of Johannesburg surprised her, and she’ll happily return. “It’s been amazing. All the people are kind and generous and the food is lovely. It’s incredible that the greenkeepers got the course in good enough condition to play three rounds considering the terrible weather this week. I’ll be coming back,” said Rhodes.
The first call she’s made after all the media interviews was to her parents. “I’m happy they got to watch it on TV.”
The Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg, Cllr Dada Morero, congratulated Rhodes. “I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Mimi Rhodes on her outstanding victory. Your talent and composure have truly inspired us all. This tournament once again proves that Joburg is not only a world-class sporting destination, but a city that is ready to do business with the world. Our doors are open, and our vision is global.
“I’m equally proud of the incredible ‘Birdies for Dignity’ initiative, which collected over 500 dignity packs. These will be donated to a school right here in our City — a powerful reminder that when sport and community come together, everyone wins,” said Cllr Morero.
South African player Casandra Alexander secured second position and defending champion Chiara Tamburlini secured sixth spot.
The Joburg Ladies Open is co-sanctioned by the Sunshine Ladies Tour and the Ladies European Tour.
