Today in Alexandra, the City of Johannesburg’s MMC for Human Settlements, Cllr Anthea Leitch, joined by Ward Councillor Teri Raphadu, Executive Director for Human Settlements Mr Patrick Phophi, officials and community members celebrated a significant moment in the city’s commitment to giving residents ownership of their homes.
The event marked the distribution of long-awaited title deeds to beneficiaries of state-sponsored RDP houses. These title deeds represent not just physical properties but the realisation of dreams, security, and the promise of a brighter future for their recipients.
MMC Leitch acknowledged the patience and resilience of recipients. The event was marked by joyous singing and dancing with the MMC, who also personally visited some of the recipients at their homes.
Despite the current housing backlog, the City of Johannesburg is committed to addressing this challenge, one family at a time. Each title deed handed out signifies more than just a house; it signifies a place where families will build memories, children will grow, and communities will thrive.
The MMC further emphasised that homeownership is about empowerment, belonging, and economic opportunities, ensuring that no family in Johannesburg has to live without a roof over their heads. The city remains devoted to improving living conditions and will continue to collaborate with communities, stakeholders, and all levels of government to make decent housing a reality.
As these title deeds were handed over, MMC Leitch reminded everyone that this is part of the journey towards a more inclusive and equitable Johannesburg.
“I would like to congratulate each and every one of the beneficiaries today. Together, we will continue to build a Johannesburg where every family has a place to call home.
“Thank you, and may these homes be filled with love, joy, and prosperity for generations to come.”
