Lamontville Golden Arrows bounced back to winning ways in the DStv Premiership when they defeated Richards Bay 1-0 at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The win elevated Abafana Bes’thende to the sixth spot on the league standings and they will be looking to make it two wins in a row when they face Mamelodi Sundowns at home on April 12.

The Natal Rich Boys, on the other hand, slipped down to the seventh spot on the standings and they will be keen to cause an upset against newly-crowned champions Sundowns away on April 18.

Abafana Bes’thende applied some early pressure on the Natal Rich Boys’ defence and they took a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute when Ryan Moon netted with a header from Knox Mutizwa’s corner-kick.

Things went from bad to worse for Richards Bay when they were reduced to 10 players in the 37th minute as Abel Mabaso was sent off after receiving his second yellow card of the game and the score 1-0 to Arrows at halftime.

Arrows looked to take advantage of their numerical superiority over the hosts after the restart and Mutizwa had a chance to double the visitors’ lead in the 62nd minute, but he volleyed the ball just over the crossbar.

With his side trailing, Richards Bay head coach Vasili Manousakis introduced attackers Katleho Makateng and Luvuyo Memela with five minutes left, but visitors stood firm at the back and ultimately, Arrows emerged as 1-0 winners.
