Football lovers and armchair supporters will be spoiled for choice this weekend, thanks to the much anticipated Wafa Wafa MTN 8 cup winner quarter finals encounters taking place  between the eight Betway Premier Soccer League outfits that finished in the top 8 bracket in the past season’s log standings.

Pride, a staggering earth shattering R10 million and a coveted trophy will be at stake for all eight teams who will also be featuring and parading all their newly signed players during the off-season recess.

Defending champions Orlando Pirates are expected to defend their title at home in their own fortress against the ever unpredictable Polokwane City FC at 3 pm.

An hour later  in the evening Sekhukhune United FC is expected to lock horns with with TS Galaxy FC at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

BACK TO THE MAIN STORY!!! Pirates vs Polokwane match at Orlando Stadium is a sold out affair and is on the spotlight given the expectation triggered by Bucs three year consecutive winning streak of this coveted trophy under the tutelage of their former indefatigable gaffer Jose Riverio who has since joined Egyptians giants Al Ahly.

Talk in most Pirates fans is that this is a litmus test match for their newly appointed Moroccan Coach Abdeslam Ouaddou.

Football pundits believe Polokwane City will be going to this match as underdogs but warned that they can cause an upset and spoil the party for Bucs if they up their game and maintain their giant killing spirit.

Past head to head encounter between these two outfits put Bucs as favourites over Rise and shine.

The two sides played 22 matches, drew 9 games and Buccaneers won 11 matches while Polokwane only managed to beat Pirates only twice.

During the launch of this official 18th edition media launch, club captains and representatives spoke their minds, previewed the matches ahead of their meeting and made prognostic predictions.

Newly apointed Bucs Captain, Nkosinathi Sibisi told a horde of journalists it’s a must to defend this cup. “It been our cup for the past three years. I Think we know the responsibility we have on our shoulders come Saturday. It’s very important to win because it sets the tone for the season for us. It’s always nice to start the season strong and there is no better way to do that except to win the MTN 8 cup again.”

He also acknowledged their opponents are tough, hard working and disciplined team. “We had narrow wins against them in the past.”

Rise and shine defender, Tlou Nkwe said  it’s a great  feeling to play defending champions.

“We had enough time to prepare, we are ready for the game. We have been working very hard. It’s not going to be easy it’s going to demand a lot from us . We are not under pressure we want to win pressure will be on them to deliver.”
