Lights, camera, action! Get ready for the international premiere tour of Obeah Opera in Soweto.
From 2 to 11 August 2024, Obeah Opera will grace the stage of the Soweto Theatre, celebrating Women’s Month in a vibrant cultural hub. Steeped in history, the theatre stands proudly in Jabulani, Soweto.
The production will also visit the Performing Arts Centre of the Free State and the South African State Theatre, marking this a groundbreaking collaboration between the three esteemed institutions.
Obeah Opera is a unique musical that retells the story of the Salem Witch trials from the captivating perspective of enslaved Caribbean women.
The timing of the tour during Women’s Month is particularly poignant. Obeah Opera’s themes of female empowerment and unity resonate deeply with the spirit of this national celebration, which honours the contributions and strength of women throughout history and in the present.

Written and composed by Nicole Brooks, Obeah Opera features an all-female a cappella cast, delivering captivating harmonies and intricate rhythms.
