PREMIERSHIP NEWCOMERS PLAY TO DRAW ON TOP-FLIGHT DEBUT

DStv Premiership newcomers Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila and TS Galaxy played to a 1-1 draw at Thohoyandou Stadium on Sunday afternoon on the opening weekend of the league season.

The visitors were the better team in the first half and scored their first goal in South Africa’s top-flight through Bevan Fransman in first half stoppage-time. A well worked corner-kick ended with the towering defender nodding Lindokuhle Mbatha’s cross into the back of the net.

TTM pulled level nine minutes after the break. Botswana international Mogakolodi Ngele, who scored a brace in the Limpopo club’s MTN8 loss to SuperSport United last weekend, nodded home from a corner-kick for his third goal of the season.

The hosts improved as the game progressed and came close to grabbing all three points, but Wensten van der Linde made a great save to deny Ngele his brace in the 82nd minute.

In the end, the two teams settled for a share of the spoils as they now shift focus to Wednesday night’s fixtures. TTM will be away to defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns in Tshwane while Galaxy are set to host AmaZulu at Mbombela Stadium.
