Shell Helix Ultra Cup is on

Its official! Two South Africa’s top teams and rivals Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns will lock horns at the iconic FNB Stadium for the coveted second instalment  Shell Helix Ultra Cup, come October 12.

This was revealed at the packed launch attended by sponsors, representatives  of both clubs  and other stakeholders infront of  multitudes media houses.

Shell Downstream South Africa General Manager for lubricants, Anton Niemann, told the packed audience that his organisation was proud to be part of this popular sport.

He also highlighted that Shell was thrilled to bring a fresh and exciting event to South African soccer fans, adding that  Shell understands the country’s masses passion for driving and their passion for great soccer.

“Soccer is the most popular game in the country and is a sport that has become a unifier across South Africa.  Shell believes that in rivalry, there is solidarity, even though there will be only ONE…through sports we are ONE,” explained Niemann.

He also stressed that his organization  was excited to be part of this prestigious tournament,  for a second year.

“We want to ensure the fans have the best experience possible and will be launching some exciting surprises for fans. Shell’s products are synonymous with high quality and excellence and this event will be no different. We are proud to bring this world-class tournament to soccer fans across the country.”

Stadiun Management SA Tournament Chairman, Dr. Jacques Grobbelaar, told the crowd, this one day cup final is a showcase of one of the best rivalries that Mzansi football has to offer – the never-ending battle between the two teams.

“The concept to create a new annual fixture is not only an exciting idea, it also offers soccer fans another opportunity to see the best talent in South Africa on the FNB Stadium pitch, battling for the bragging rights to lift this trophy.

“Partnering with the Shell Helix Ultra team, as leaders in their industry, will ensure we bring an “Ultra” experience to the soccer fans who love these teams.”

He also acknowledged the greenlight and support by the PSL in allowing this prestigious event in the local football calendar.
