Supergroup-Owned Betway South Africa is delighted to officially announce its headline sponsorship of the 2022 Betway Summer Cup, which will be held on Saturday, 26 November at the Turffontein Racecourse in Johannesburg.
The newly signed three-year agreement with the race right’s holders, 4Racing sees Johannesburg’s flagship race having the theme of ‘The Golden Summer’, where Betway’s sponsorship will see the stakes for the Grade 1 Betway Summer Cup increase this year to R2.5 million.
The Betway Summer Cup is one of South Africa’s premier horse races and this year it will be a festive, joyous occasion, celebrating Johannesburg’s return to bustling activity and major events after a two-year hiatus.
Betway’s partnership with 4Racing is an extension of the brand’s wide variety of marquee sponsorship assets which continue to propel the brand to being the most reputable and trusted sports betting and entertainment brand in South Africa and the rest of Africa.
Elaborating on this was Betway SA Country Manager, Phillip Superamonien who said this new asset is another exciting opportunity for the brand to demonstrate its innovative approach to sponsorship the country.

The first entries for the Betway Summer Cup closed on 21 September and underlined the event’s status as one of South African horseracing’s blue ribbon events with the likes of Graded race champions such as Sparkling Water, Rain in Holland, Safe Passage, Red Saxon, Aragosta, Bingwa and MK’s Pride among the early entries, along with notable performers such as Hoedspruit and previous winner Zillzaal.
Betway Ambassador and trainer Mike de Kock also added his sentiments on the new venture, adding that this was another way in which the brand re-affirms its commitment to uplifting communities through sport.

Popular features of the Betway Summer Cup this year will be the Summer Garden hospitality area, the Piazza public area with its delicious food stalls, activities and entertainment and a Half Time Concert with some of South Africa’s top musical talent.

- Final entries close at 09h00 on Friday 18 November, on which date the weights will be published.
