Cape Town City beat SuperSport United
It was the perfect start to the season for Cape Town City who beat SuperSport United 2-0 in a 2018/19 Absa Premiership match at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday night.
SuperSport started positively as they controlled the flow of the game and came
close to opening the scoring in the 13th minute when Evans Rusike turned his marker on the edge of the box, but his curling effort was brilliantly saved by the keeper.
Seven minutes later the home side created their first chance when Riyaad Norodien beat two defenders before unleashing a powerful 20-yard shot, but his effort was well-saved by the SuperSport keeper.
Norodien was in the thick of the action again the 38th minute when he found space on the edge of the box, but again Ronwen Williams pulled of a fantastic save to deny him.
The half ended goalless.
Ten minutes into the second half City took the lead thanks to a spectacular 16-yard volley from Roland Putsche, 1-0.
The home side doubled their lead in the 67th minute when substitute and birthday boy Craig Martin found himself in space inside the box at the far post and produced a clinical finish to make it 2-0.
It was almost three for City in four minutes later when a pin-point cross from Teko Modise was met by Taariq Fielies, but his ten-yard header shaved the wrong side of the post.
SuperSport threw players forward in the final 15 minutes of the encounter, but were unable to find any consolation as the match ended 2-0 in favour of City.
