Swallows FC scored a 97th minute equaliser to draw 1-1 with Mamelodi Sundowns in a thrilling 2020-21 DStv Premiership encounter at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday.
The result leaves the two clubs level on 27 points atop the league standings after 13 rounds of fixtures. Kermit Eramus opened the scoring in Atteridgeville before a dramatic late goal from Musa Nyatama. Both teams have yet to lose a match this season.
Sundowns dominated the early exchanges with Lebohang Maboe and Hlompho Kekana sending respective attempts narrowly wide of goal.
The Brazilians finally broke their goal drought on the cusp of halftime. Ruzaigh Gamildien was caught on the ball in the middle of the park by Kekana and with the visitors exposed, George Maluleka played a precise ball into Erasmus who curled his attempt into the top corner of the net with Virgil Vries unmoved in the Swallows goal.
Swallows improved after the interval and conjured chances through Gamildein and Lebohang Mokoena but Denis Onyango remained untested in the Sundowns goal and looked on course to keep a 10th clean sheet of the season.
But the Birds failed to give up and as was the case against Orlando Pirates earlier this month, they found the equaliser in second-half stoppage time.
Onyango failed to hold onto Kagiso Malinga’s rasping free-kick and Nyatama pounced to bundle the ball into an empty net in the 97th minute of the match.
