TOP TRIO FROM THE JOBURG OPEN TO COMPETE AT THE OPEN

Dean Burmester, fresh off back-to-back titles on the DP World Tour, including a thrilling victory at the Investec South African Championship a week after clinching the Joburg Open, is set to shine at the 152nd Open at Royal Troon in Scotland.

Joining him are Darren Fichardt, who had previously won the Joburg Open, and Dan Bradbury, the 2022 winner.

The top trio’s stellar performance at the Joburg Open last November secured their spots in this prestigious golf tournament.

The Joburg Open, part of The Open qualifying series, offers the top three finishers a chance to compete against the world’s best at The Open, taking place from Thursday, 18 July to Sunday, 21 July 2024.

Burmester, who has previously competed in The Open at Royal St George’s in 2021 and at The 150th Open at St Andrews in 2022, where he finished T11, will lead the charge. Fichardt, making his first appearance in golf’s original major since 2017, and rising star Bradbury will round out the trio.

Bongi Mokaba, the City of Johannesburg’s Events Director and tournament promoter, says she is glad that when the Joburg Open was offered an opportunity to form part of The Open qualifying series, the municipality grabbed that opportunity with both hands.

“We can now boast of several young men across the world who have flown the Joburg brand high, having been afforded the opportunity to play in the world’s oldest Major through the Joburg Open,” says Mokaba.

By hosting such tournaments, the City positions Johannesburg globally as a sporting destination of choice, “making Joburg a great place to work, stay, and play”.

A visibly delighted Mokaba says Burmester’s back-to-back wins have set the stage for Joburg Open stars at The Open. She expresses her eagerness to watch the trio’s performance at The Open this week.
