4 August 2017 – Technical Director of the South African Football Association (SAFA), Neil Tovey, has lauded the SAFA Provincial Technical Officers workshop currently underway at the Association’s Technical Centre in Johannesburg.

The programme has brought together 18 football brains from all nine provinces evenly spread between male and female.

The aim is to share knowledge and improve on their skills on how to better administer and improve the game in their respective provinces.

“This has been a great exercise by SAFA in bringing together football brains from all over the country. As we know, each province has its own challenges and it was great to get different views on how we can take football development forward,” said Tovey.

The 10-Day programme has had to be reduced to five days due to changes within the CAF structures that resulted in a CAF Assessor not being available to attend the last five days of the course.

However, the participants will be afforded the opportunity to complete the assessments at a date that is yet to be announced.

Apart from the sharing of ideas and discussing modern methods in football, the participants listed the unique challenges faced in their various communities, which the SAFA TD said would be looked at with the aim of finding a lasting solution.

“Each province has its individual needs. We have done a needs analysis and we will put a strategy together, which will need to be implemented and monitored. Once that is done, they will be better equipped to play a more influential part in their provinces,” added Tovey.
