TYLER LEADS BASED IN MUSIC AWARDS 2024 NOMINATIONS

The Basadi in Music Awards (BIMA) returns for its third year on Saturday, 10 August, at the iconic Mandela Stage at Joburg Theatre, promising an unforgettable evening honouring the talented women who drive the music industry.

From powerhouse vocalists to inventive minds behind the scenes, BIMA celebrates singers, rappers, DJs, composers, producers, writers, and creatives. This year’s theme, ‘Girl in the Mirror – Our Re.Flexion,’ is a tribute to the power and diversity of women in music, extending beyond home borders.

“We’re proud to welcome phenomenal artists from Ghana, the Kingdom of Eswatini, and Namibia to the BIMA family. It’s a true celebration of African female artistry on a continental scale,” says said Hloni Modise-Matau, CEO of the Basadi in Music Awards.

CEO of Joburg City Theatres, Xoliswa Nduneni-Ngema, expresses immense pride in hosting the Basadi in Music Awards 2024. “We congratulate all the talented women from across the continent whose hard work and dedication have earned them this recognition. It is an honour to have you grace our iconic Mandela Stage and witness the power and diversity of female artistry in Africa.”

Leading the nominations with five nods is international superstar Tyla, contending for Pop Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Styled Artist of the Year, Music Video of the Year, and Artist of the Year.

Following closely is DJ Zinhle, with four nominations for Collaboration of the Year for “Thula” with Cici and “Mdali” with Basetsana, DJ of the Year, and Music Video of the Year. Lwah Ndlunkulu also garnered four nominations for Afro Pop Artist of the Year, Music Video of the Year, Song of the Year, and Artist of the Year.

Kamo Mphela has been nominated for Amapiano Artist of the Year, Music Video of the Year for “Dali” featuring Khalil Harrison, Tyler ICU, and Baby S.O.N, Artist of the Year, and Song of the Year.

Cici also secured four nominations, including Collaboration of the Year for “Thula” with DJ Zinhle, Dance Artist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, and Music Video of the Year. Makhadzi follows with nominations for Songwriter of the Year, Dance Artist of the Year, and Artist of the Year.

The South African public can vote by sending the category code and the name of their favourite nominee to 49960 (e.g., Afropop Brenda). Votes are unlimited, and each SMS costs R2, with free SMSes not applicable.

Early Bird tickets are available for R500 until 1 July 2024, with prices rising to R750 thereafter. “Don’t miss this opportunity to be part of a night celebrating the best in female artistry,” says Modise-Matau.
