Few cities possess the raw magnetism and systemic resilience of Johannesburg. As the economic heartbeat of South Africa, this financial hub and sprawling landscape of opportunity is hungry for growth and uniquely capable of yielding the “sweet returns” that discerning investors crave.
Over the past two decades, Johannesburg has attracted 747 Foreign Direct Investment [FDI] projects, representing a staggering R353.18 billion in capital. This is a vote of confidence from the global community, resulting in over 40,000 new jobs and an average investment of R472 million per project.
However, a city cannot rest on its history. To remain Africa’s premier investment gateway, we are actively modernising our infrastructure. From the expansion of our Bus Rapid Transit systems to the visionary development of the Lanseria Smart City, we are designing an urban environment that facilitates ease of trade. Our recent R540 million [EUR 27.5 million] energy grant ensures that as we grow, our power systems become cleaner and more reliable, securing the long-term energy security essential for any industrial or commercial enterprise.
Our investment landscape is beautifully diversified. While we remain a continental leader in Software and IT services, our appeal spans 34 sectors. We are home to the continent’s most sophisticated banking system and a workforce that balances the wisdom of experienced professionals with a dynamic, highly educated youth pool.
For the investor, Johannesburg offers a “Gold Standard” of guarantees: political stability, a business-friendly regulatory environment, and unmatched access to the continent’s largest markets. Through our Trade and Investment Unit and our Investment Fast-Tracking Committee, we act as a concierge for capital, addressing bottlenecks and accelerating projects from conception to completion.
Johannesburg is not just a place to invest; it is a destination to experience. It is a city of vibrancy and ambition, where every street corner tells a story of a “Golden Opportunity.” We invite you to join us in this next chapter of our story. The returns are ready; the gateway is open.
