THUMBS UP FOR TOURISM BOARD GAUTENG SALES MARKETING WORKSHOP

In the run-up towards promoting domestic tourism whilst celebrating September as Tourism and Heritage Month, the North West Tourism Board hosted a Sales/Marketing Workshop targeting the Gauteng domestic tourist market.

The Sales Workshop was recently held under the theme “Refresh Your Knowledge about the North West Province”,  at the Maslow Hotel in Sandton, Gauteng.

According to North West Tourism Board Communications Manager, Mamaki Phoolo, the Sales Workshop came as a precursor to planned Tourism and Heritage Month programme of activities.

“As part of the province’s post COVID 19 pandemic Tourism Recovery Plans, the Sales Workshop aimed amongst others, to position the North West Province as a preferred destination of choice; increase tourists visitations from Gauteng; increase the tourist market share of the province and improve the geographical spread; establish new working relations with the travel trade; maintain the North West Brand in critical tourist markets and improve working relations with provincial tourism product owners.

“The Sales Workshop took place in the form of personal presentations in a round-robin setup, where the twenty North West product owners directly interacted with the Gauteng travel trade to impress on their diverse tourism offerings. Part of the sales/marketing strategy included running a competition for a number of sponsored prizes by the North West product owners which included mid-week and weekend holidays as well as adventure experiences in the province and distributing marketing collateral, taking advantage of the captive audience.”

Phoolo also revealed the target audience involved the tourism value chain such tour operators, graded accommodation establishments, travel agencies, airlines, car rentals, event organisers, destination marketing organisations and media.

“Both the North West and the Gauteng Travel Trade were very appreciative of interactive platform created as well as the opportunity to establish working relations amongst themselves,” Phoolo pointed.

“What was key for this platform, was to have both provinces working together, with regard to developing inter-provincial tourism packages which would provide tourists with unforgettable experiences,” she said.
