In a significant step towards embracing the digital age, the Gauteng Provincial Government hosted a Cashless Indaba event aimed at promoting cashless transactions and digital payment systems. The event, held at the Brixton Multipurpose Centre, brought together government officials, business leaders, and technology experts to discuss the benefits and challenges of transitioning to a cashless society.

Premier Panyaza Lesufi, a staunch advocate for modernising Gauteng’s economic infrastructure, welcomed the attendees with an inspiring message. He said, “We are on the verge of an evolutionary transition. The Cashless Indaba represents our commitment to accelerating the adoption of digital payment solutions throughout the Gauteng province, enhancing convenience and financial inclusivity for all our citizens.”

The Cashless Indaba featured various experts in the field of financial technology. These experts delved into topics such as the security of digital transactions, the role of blockchain technology in creating transparent financial systems, and the importance of financial education in making the transition to cashless systems smoother for the public.

One of the keynote speakers, MEC Tasneem Motara, emphasised, “Going cashless isn’t just about convenience; it’s about reducing the risks associated with cash transactions, enabling more people to access financial services, and boosting economic growth through increased efficiency.”

Throughout the event, attendees were able to explore and interact with innovative technologies from local companies, showcasing the latest advancements in digital payment solutions, mobile banking, and cryptocurrency.

The Premier also highlighted the government’s efforts to ensure that no one is left behind in this transition. “We are committed to making digital financial services accessible to all, especially those in underserved communities. Our goal is to bridge the digital divide and empower everyone to participate in the digital economy,” he said.

The Cashless Indaba, which attracted a diverse group of stakeholders, created an environment where the public and private sectors could collaborate to build a robust and secure digital financial ecosystem.

Lesufi expressed his optimism about the future of Gauteng’s digital financial landscape. “We are determined to lead the way in Africa and the world in embracing cashless solutions. Our commitment to innovation, security, and inclusivity will be the driving force behind our success.”
