Plans for the highly anticipated African Bank Soweto Marathon 2024 were unveiled in the heart of Soweto at the historic Vilakazi Street’s well-known Sakhumzi Restaurant. The event promises to be a celebratory run, taking place on 3 November 2024.

Mokomane Mekgoe, the acting Executive Director for Community Development in the City of Johannesburg, assured participants they’ll “own the road” during the marathon. This commitment emphasises the City’s strong backing for the event and its dedication to creating a safe and enjoyable experience for all runners.

Further solidifying its importance, James Moloi, the President of Athletics South Africa, pledged full support for the marathon. This endorsement highlights the event’s role in promoting athletics and fostering community spirit within South Africa.

Adding to the excitement, Courtney Williams, representing Joma, announced their pride in partnering with the marathon. Joma will be supplying all the race T-shirts, ensuring participants receive high-quality apparel. “We are thrilled to support the African Bank Soweto Marathon and contribute to the runners’ experience,” said Williams.

Entries for the marathon officially opened from 4 July to 30 September 2024. Marking its 29th edition, the African Bank Soweto Marathon will return to Nasrec, continuing its tradition of honouring Soweto’s rich history and coinciding with the celebration of 30 years of democracy in South Africa.
