The much anticipated, mouth-watering Betway Premiership clash between Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns is expected to be a high-octane encounter likely to produce scintillating and sparkling football on the field of play at the FNB Stadium this afternoon .

This classic clash ’s interest is triggered by the number of tickets sold and the on form displayed by the two outfits in their  opening two matches where they beat both their opponents and bagged maximum six points each.

Flashack!!! Amakhosi beat beleaguered Marumo Gallants 2-1 and Amazulu 3-1 while Sundowns trounced their Tshwane rivals Supersport United 2-0 and sank ‘Bahlabane ba ntwa’ the former NFD campaigners who purchased the PSL status of the now defunct Moroka Swallows.

Head to Head history since 2007 the two outfits faced  each other 44 times with the Phefeni Glamour Boys  winning 14 games and the Brazilians having the bragging rights by winning 18 matches and 12 draws respectively.

Football pundits who spoke to this publication believe Downs will have an edge over Chiefs on the day by virtue of their past favourable winning statistics.

Others believe the signing of Tunisian tactician Nasredine Nabi is a breath of fresh air and will bring their winning fortunes that has eluded them in the past season.

During a media briefing held at Vodaworld ahead of this clash, Stadium Management’s MD, Bertie Grobbelaar, warned fans to arrive on time and be wary of buying stadium entry tickets from nefarious agents.

JMPD Spokesman, Xoli Fihla, promised a free flowing traffic leading to the stadium precinct.

Speaking via his interpreter, Chiefs mentor, Nabi said,

Confidence and fresh body of the mind will play a big role in his players.

“Our opponents are a great team in Africa, we are going to push to make sure we win on Saturday.

Pressed about Sirino, He said he believed the said player will give the best account of himself on the day.

“We know how to behave in competitive matches.

I have confidence in my players they will give 100% perfomance.  Sundowns team still have the same winning philosophy and quality of football is still there.”

Downs Coach, Manqoba Mngqithi, said his team thrive in playing against big crowds.

“ That is one thing as Sundowns we have grown and developed to like. We are playing against a very good team that has started very well looking like they have been rejuvinated.  That makes them a very difficult team  to play against. They are very dangerous on transition with the front three. It’s  game that requires a lot of focus humility and certain amount of respect.”

Chiefs’ defender  Inacio Miguel, told the media on the sidelines, they have a big game.

“We have to respect Sundowns for the moment they are a best team. We want to give a word that we want to ensure we are able to do something differently this season. We have to focus step by step we will achieve our goals.”

Downs, Defender, Grant Kekana, said, “We like working hard at Sundowns.  It’s going to be a tough game but a lovely one for the supporters.

“ We appreciate the level of competitition at Sundowns We want to try nullify their attack on Saturday. The team that makes the least mistake will win the game.

“It’s exciting; it’s going to be a lovely tough game. Chiefs are doing well right now, but we trust and believe in our processes. The mentality hasn’t changed, we want to win every game.”
