Maccabi miss out on top spot, Tigers boost survival hopes
Maccabi missed the chance to go top of the Gauteng ABC Motsepe League table, after falling to a 3-1 defeat to M Tigers on Tuesday afternoon.
The encounter was rescheduled for Tuesday, 28 February after the pitch was deemed waterlogged on Saturday 25 February.
However, Tigers enjoyed an early start and took the lead in the opening exchanges courtesy of a strike from Siphesihle Mkhize.
Maccabi looked for a way back into the encounter, but were let down by their finishing in the box, before Mhkize bagged his and Tigers’ second goal from the penalty spot.
Train Mokhabi sealed the win for the visitors with a fine free-kick that left the Maccabi shot-stopper with no chance.
The home side did manage to pull a goal back through Mvuyo Zanempi in the second stanza, but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation, as the score remained 3-1 at the final whistle.
The victory sees Tigers steer clear of the drop zone, as they moved up to 13th spot, while Maccabi fluffed their chances of moving top and remain in second spot.
