Final event of the Life Changing Lessons campaign encourages honest conversations around loss, legacy, and financial wellbeing
Recently, 1Life Insurance, in partnership with entrepreneur and Wisdom & Wellness founder Mpoomy Ledwaba, brought the Life Changing Lessons with Wisdom & Wellness campaign to a poignant close at the elegant Olives and Plates, Wits Club in Johannesburg.
This final gathering marked the culmination of a nationwide journey that travelled from Cape Town to Johannesburg, creating safe, intimate spaces for South Africans to open up about grief, generational wealth, and financial planning—topics that are often avoided, yet crucial to long-term wellbeing and family legacy.
Throughout the campaign, 1Life encouraged South Africans to prepare for life’s uncertainties with compassion and foresight. More than just a brand initiative, Life Changing Lessons became a platform for personal empowerment—reframing insurance as a simple, accessible tool for building generational wealth and ensuring peace of mind for loved ones.
“This collaboration with 1Life has been phenomenal,” said Mpoomy Ledwaba. “As influencers, we help shape the conversations that define culture. It’s been both a privilege and a responsibility to be part of meaningful dialogue around legacy, family, and wealth. These are the kinds of conversations that truly change lives.”
In Johannesburg, Mpoomy was joined by television presenter and entrepreneur Stephanie Ndlovu for an emotionally resonant discussion around parenting, personal growth, and the experience of losing a parent. Recorded live for the Wisdom & Wellness podcast, the event went beyond surface-level storytelling, it created a shared, supportive space where vulnerability was met with empathy, and life’s hardest lessons became powerful sources of healing and strength.
“People are often hesitant to talk about financial planning, loss, or legacy because these are emotionally complex topics,” said Andiswa Nyembe, Communications Manager at 1Life. “But through this campaign, we saw how transformative it can be when people feel safe enough to engage in these conversations. We believe financial wellbeing is just as vital as mental or physical wellbeing, and our goal was to help people take that first step.”
Earlier in the campaign, in Cape Town, Mpoomy and her husband, musician Brenden Praise, shared their own journey through grief and legacy planning. Their heartfelt honesty resonated deeply with attendees, many of whom found solace and recognition in the couple’s story.
According to the 2025 Life Changing Lessons Survey, while 80% of South Africans believe that discussing finances brings peace of mind, more than half still find these conversations difficult to initiate with loved ones. This insight underpinned the campaign’s broader mission: to normalise financial dialogue and equip people with the knowledge and tools to engage in it with confidence.
1Life also spotlighted its Truth About Money initiative, a free, practical resource offering tools for debt management, estate planning, and financial education. These offerings empower individuals to shift from financial stress to financial control, ensuring that families are equipped to focus on healing rather than hardship when the unexpected happens.
“At 1Life, we’re committed to fostering a culture of intentional education,” added Nyembe. “Having open, honest conversations about money, death, and legacy is not always easy, but it is essential. We believe in creating safe, accessible spaces where these discussions can happen.”
At its heart, Life Changing Lessons with Wisdom & Wellness was not only about insurance. It was about empowering South Africans to take charge of their futures. It was about understanding that a single, informed decision, such as securing life cover or attending a transformative conversation, can positively impact generations.
As the campaign draws to a close, one message remains: you are just one decision away from changing your family’s life for the better. Through thoughtful preparation, meaningful conversations, and a commitment to financial wellness, we all have the power to leave behind more than memories, we can leave behind a legacy.
