GAUTENG INTRODUCES 3000 NEW TRAFFIC WARDENS

Lerato Mailoane

The Gauteng Provincial Government has welcomed a new cohort of traffic wardens who will complement the work of law enforcement officials across the province.

“Through targeted deployments, the Gauteng Traffic Wardens will enhance and complement the work of law enforcement officials across Gauteng to accelerate the fight against crime, corruption, lawlessness and vandalism.”

That’s according to MEC for Community Safety, Faith Mazibuko who was addressing the pass-out parade at Dunnottar Military Base in Ekurhuleni, as she congratulated wardens with certificates and trophies after the successful completion of months of rigours training.

The parade took place simultaneously at the three  training bases located in Nigel, Kimberly and Potchefstroom.

Also, in attendance in Ekurhuleni was Gauteng Premier, Panyaza Lesufi who urged the new cohort of traffic wardens to uphold the law by being diligent and professional at all times.

“Today, we released an extra 3000 new wardens to swell the ranks of our streets and wards, especially in coloured communities, as we intensify our resolve to fight crime and create job opportunities for our youth.”

“We must not hear of people wearing uniforms but are doing wrong things. I pay you enough for you not to ask for bribes,” said Lesufi.

The training of this cohort was done in collaboration with South African National Defence Force (SANDF) and other Law Enforcement Agencies.

MEC Mazibuko said the new recruits will be “under the control and command of the SANDF.

“You are not on your own. You are also under the command of your supervisors in the Gauteng Traffic police. I must never hear of anyone that has done something that they were not allowed to do. If you are given cars to go and police our areas, it is not your family car. This car belongs to the state, and you must use it for that purpose,” she added.
