JOHANNESBURG ELECTS ITS FIRST DEPUTY EXECUTIVE MAYOR — UNOPPOSED

The 36th Ordinary Council Meeting of the City of Johannesburg has elected Cllr Loyiso Masuku as the Executive Deputy Mayor (EDM) of the City of Johannesburg.

Her election follows Council’s approval of the establishment of the Executive Deputy Mayor position, a strategic decision aimed at strengthening executive leadership and enhancing governance within the City.

In her new role, Cllr Masuku will support Executive Mayor Cllr Dada Morero in coordinating key programmes, reinforcing oversight across departments and entities, and accelerating improved service delivery throughout the metro. The creation of the position underscores Council’s commitment to ensuring greater efficiency, accountability, and responsiveness to the needs of residents.

According to the Speaker of Council, the swearing-in ceremony of the Executive Deputy Mayor will take place during today’s Council sitting.

The City remains committed to building a capable and responsive administration that delivers tangible results for the people of Johannesburg.
