Severe flooding and persistent cold weather conditions across several provinces have caused extensive damage to homes and critical infrastructure, displacing families and leaving many communities in urgent need of assistance.
In response to this humanitarian need, Standard Bank is mobilising support to assist affected communities and strengthen the efforts of relief organisations working on the ground.
To provide immediate relief, Standard Bank will donate R1 million to the South African Red Cross Society. This funding will support the delivery of essential humanitarian aid to communities impacted by the flooding.
The contribution will go towards assisting areas impacted in the Free State, Northern Cape, Western Cape and KwaZulu Natal.
“We are saddened by the devastation brought by the extreme weather. We feel obliged to do what we can to help and hopefully this contribution will play a part in bringing relief to those impacted,” says Dr Kirston Greenop, Head of Corporate Citizenship at Standard Bank Group.
The bank also announced that it will match its employee contributions. Employee donations will be matched through the bank’s Rand4Rand initiative and directed to One Farm Impact, an organisation actively supporting flood-affected communities.

Standard Bank’s contribution will go a long way in helping to rebuild and repair in the affected areas. We continue to ask people to assist where they can” says Mr Molefi Jeremiah Takalo, Chief Executive Officer at the South African Red Cross Society.
Every contribution will play a vital role in providing urgent relief and helping affected families begin the process of recovery.
