Wednesday’s DStv Premiership action saw Golden Arrows moved into second spot on the log, while Kaizer Chiefs have now gone six league matches without a win after they could only draw 1-1 away to Maritzburg United.

The late kick-off at Harry Gwala Stadium saw the Team of Choice put themselves on the path for victory with an early goal from Thabiso Kutumela, but the Amakhosi were able to salvage a point thanks to an 88th minute equaliser from Lebogang Manyama.

The Soweto giants are a lowly (by their standards) 11th on the log, while Maritzburg remain in the relegation playoff spot but have put a four point buffer between themselves and the foot of the table.

Arrows secured a 2-1 away win over Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium thanks to a late penalty from Siboniso Conco. In a match hit by a weather-enforced break, Abafana Bes’thende led through Knox Mutizwa, were pegged back by TTM’s Alfred Ndengane, but ultimately claimed the win to move just one point behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns (having played three games more).

Another match in Polokwane saw Stellenbosch swap places with Baroka to move into ninth, defeating the hosts 3-1 thanks to goals from Stanley Dimgba, Ashley Du Preez and Phathutshedzo Nange.

TS Galaxy continued their great form of late by defeating Black Leopards 3-1 at the Mbombela Stadium. An own goal from Tebogo Makobela got the Rockets on path for an eight straight unbeaten game, while Marks Munyai and Masilake Phohlongo also got in on the act as the hosts pushed up to seventh place on the log. Leopards, meanwhile, remain rock bottom.

AmaZulu are also on a hot streak, but they had to work extremely hard for their 1-0 away win at Sisa Dukashe Stadium over Chippa United, with Tapelo Xoki’s penalty proving the difference.

The DStv Premiership will continue with one catch-up fixture this weekend – Stellenbosch hosting Mamelodi Sundowns – as the Nedbank Cup quarterfinals take centre stage, before returning in full force on the weekend of 19-21 March.
