BANYANA BANYANA HOSTED AND CELEBRATED BY BRAND SOUTH AFRICA IN BREAKFAST SEND-OFF

The South African senior women’s national team was on Wednesday (21 June 2023) hosted by Brand South Africa ahead of the team’s departure to the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup to be co-hosted in Australia and New Zealand.

The reigning Women’s Africa Cup of Nations champions reported for their selection and preparation camp on 12 June 2023 and have been going through a series of training sessions and other activities ahead of coach Desiree Ellis’ final squad announcement this coming Friday (23 June 2023).

Speaking at the event Brand SA CEO Sithembile Ntombela called on South Africans from all walks of life to show support for BanyanaBanyana. Desiree Ellis’ charges will be making their second appearance at the global showplace and are growing in stature as a global force.

“My job is easy today. It is to open this event and celebrate the team of the moment and that is Banyana Banyana. As they get ready for the World Cup we just want them to know that they are not alone going to this event,’’ said Ntombela.

The event was also attended by SAFA President Dr Danny Jordaan, SAFA CEO Lydia Monyepao and other stakeholders that included Banyana Banyana headline sponsors Sasol.

“You cannot talk about football brand in South Africa without recognising the centrality of Banyana Banyana. They used to say Bafana Bafana first and then Banyana Banyana but now I think we say Banyana first and then Bafana. This shows the tremendous progress over a period of time by our senior women’s national team,” said the SAFA President.

“Brand South Africa must travel with the team to Australia and New Zealand to make sure that Banyana Banyana is visible to the audience during the FIFA Women’s World Cup.”
