BAROKA FC FIGHT BACK TO DENY CAPE TOWN CITY

Baroka FC came back to hold Cape Town City to a 1-1 draw in a DStv Premiership match at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The draw saw Bakgaga Ba Mphahlele and the Citizens remain ninth and fifth respectively on the league standings.

The Citizens suffered a blow a few minutes into the game as their stand-in captain Thabo Nododa went down injured after colliding with Goodman Mosele.

The influential midfield maestro, who had sustained a head injury, was replaced by experienced attacking midfielder Mpho Makola just 13 minutes into the encounter.

Makola and Mduduzi Mdantsane were causing havoc for the Bakgaga Ba Mphahlele defence and the former nearly scored in the 27th minute.

Mdantsane set-up Makola, who watched in disbelief as his well-taken shot was fantastically saved by Oscarine Masuluke in the Baroka goal-posts.

The last chance of the first-half fell for Taariq Fielies five minutes before halftime after some good work by Bradley Ralani.

Ralani played a quality cross for Fielies, who headed the ball just over the crossbar and the score was 0-0 at halftime after a first-half which was dominated by City.

The Citizens continued to launch attacks after the restart and they deservedly broke the deadlock and the creative Mdantsane was involved in the 50th minute.

The former Baroka captain set-up Ralani, who hit the back of the net to make it 1-0 to City with the 33-year-old winger netting his fourth league goal of the season.

Baroka head coach Thoka Matsimela reacted by introducing attack-minded duo of Kgodiso Monama and Augustine Mahlonoko.

Bakgaga Ba Mphahlele then pressed the Citizens and they managed to level matters when City left-back Terrence Mashego scored an own-goal to make it 1-1 with 13 minutes left.

Both teams launched late attacks in search for another goal, but it never came and ultimately, the game ended in a 1-1 draw on the day.
