Baroka vs Wits

WITS EYE CUP REDEMPTION V BAROKA

Bidvest Wits and Baroka FC will go head-to-head in a 2017 Telkom Knockout Cup quarterfinal clash at Bidvest Stadium on Saturday, with the hosts particularly desperate to breathe life into their campaign.

Kick-off is at 8:15pm CAT.

The Clever boys currently occupy a relegation spot in the Absa Premiership, with the defending champions having endured a terrible start to their title defence – losing 2-0 to Chippa United in their latest encounter.

Gavin Hunt’s troops, though, did manage victory in the TKO Round of 16, be it a 4-2 extra-time victory over Free State Stars. Amr Gamal at the double for the Braamfontein-based club.

Bakgaga have endured a contrasting start with the Limpopo side currently top of the league table. They backed up their impressive run in the Absa Premiership with a 1-0 win over last year’s TKO champions, Cape Town City, in the first round.

Talent Chawapiwa’s fine strike dumping the Citizens out of the competition.

Bidvest Wits, though, will fancy their chances with the two-time League Cup champions boasting an umbleshied record against their counterparts. Vincent Pule netting the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win over Baroka in a league clash late last month.

The Clever Boys, who lifted the League Cup in 1985 and 1995, will be hoping to add a another title to their ranks – a first in the Telkom Knockout era – if they can get past the Limpopo club.

Predicted Starting 11:

Bidvest Wits: Keet; Hlanti, Hlatshwayo, Khumalo, Frosler – Ntshangase, Motshwari, Pelembe, Klate – Pule, Gamal.

Baroka FC: Vries; Masenamela, Mahashe, Shaku, Kgoetyane – Sidumo, Mdatsane, Madubanya, Moeti – Motupa, Chawapiwa
