Chippa frustrated by Maritzburg

Despite having the majority of possession and chances on goal, Chippa United failed to beat Maritzburg United as their Absa Premiership match at the Nelson Mandlea Bay stadium on Wednesday night ended 0-0.

The result leaves Chippa in tenth place on the table with eight points from eight matches, one behind Maritzburg who are in ninth place after playing seven games.

The first effort on goal came in the tenth minute when Lerato Manzini met a cross from Mark Mayambela, but his effort went wife of goal.

Both teams fought for ascendancy after that, but Chippa got the better of the exchanges with Kurt Lentjies trying his luck just after the half hour mark, but Richard Ofori make a good save to deny him from 18-yards out.

Maritzburg’s only chance of the half came in the 40th minute when Lebohang Maboe had a long range shot, but he saw his powerful effort saved by Daniel Akpeyi.

The half ended 0-0.

The second half saw Chippa continue to boss the game with Mayambela striking the cross bar in the 53rd minute from a 22-yard free-kick.

The game fell into a bit of a lull after that with neither side offering too much in the way of attack.

Ten minutes from time Chippa struck the woodwork once more when a Samuel Julies shot from the edge of the box struck the post.

Neither side could find the winner in the dying minutes of the match as it ended all-square.
