In a drive to augment and bump up Gauteng Provincial Government’s  revenue, Finance Head honcho Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko believes there is a need for government to significantly up its game when collecting money from its own sources.

Ralehoko was referring to gambling taxes and motor vehicle licenses and other government controlled sources over the next three years.

According to her these monies will supplement transfers from national government and maintain funding of key priorities in the province.

The MEC pointed out current projections are that the province will collect more than R22 billion over the next three years, adding that plans are underway to significantly increase this amount.

“Gauteng has developed a revenue enhancement strategy. Strategy is anchored around two pillars focused on optimization of current revenue sources and explore new revenue streams such as online Renewal of Motor Vehicle Licenses, roadside advertising, Gauteng Broadband Network Commercialization and automation of casino licence operations,” She said.

The MEC also revealed and stressed, 2022/23 provincial budget also makes provision to support and mainstream government’s programmes.

“This budget also focuses on gender-based violence and support the rights of women, youth, senior citizens, people with disabilities, military veterans and the LGBTIQ+ community. It also includes the amounts allocated to address femicide, gender-based violence as well as violence against women and children,”She said.
