Chippa share spoils with City

CITY FRUSTRATED BY CHIPPA AT HOME

Cape Town City were held to a 1-1 draw by Chippa United in an Absa Premiership match at the Cape Town Stadium on Tuesday.

The draw sees the Citizens remain eighth on the league standings, while the Chilli Boys moved up to 12th place on the table.

The Citizens got off to the perfect start as they hit the back of the net just seven minutes into the encounter.

Taariq Fielies set-up Riyaad Norodien, who fired past Chippa goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi to make it 1-0 to City.

The Chilli Boys then pushed for the equalising goal and they managed to level matters through Rhulani Manzini in the 14th minute.

The former AmaZulu FC striker scored with a thunderous shot from a free-kick to make it 1-1 with City keeper Peter Leeuwenburgh well-beaten.

The hosts tried to respond with a goal, but Akpeyi made a good save to deny City midfielder Teko Modise on the half-hour mark.

Ayanda Patosi, who was looking lively for the Citizens, missed the target twice with the halftime break fast approaching.

The score was 1-1 at the interval with Chippa having fought back to hold City.

The two teams continued to attack each other after the restart as Nigeria international Akpeyi was called into action on the hour-mark.

Edmilson Dove forced Akpeyi into a decent save as the experienced shot-stopper kept the hosts at bay.

Former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates striker Siphelele Mthembu was introduced by City in the 71st minute as the hosts searched for a late winner.

However, the visitors responded by pulling out Manzini and they introduced defensive midfielder Buyani Sali as Chippa looked to contain City.

Chippa were able to hold City in the closing stages of the game and ultimately, the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
