CITY BRIDGES DELIVERY GAP ON WORLD HEALTH DAY

This World Health Day, 06 April, the Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA) joins the City of Johannesburg’s Health Department in reaffirming its collective commitment to building healthier communities.

The purpose of World Health Day is to create awareness about health care and working conditions, and through training and support, aims to better equip health practitioners to provide better health services.

The theme for World Health Day 2024 is ‘My health, my right’. The theme was chosen to champion the right of everyone everywhere to have access to quality health services, education, and information, as well as safe drinking water, clean air, good nutrition, quality housing, decent working and environmental conditions, and freedom from discrimination.

As the infrastructure arm of the City of Johannesburg, the JDA recognises the pivotal role that access to quality healthcare plays in fostering sustainable growth and human flourishing.

Through the implementation of clinic infrastructure, on behalf of the Health Department, the JDA plays a crucial task of constructing modern clinics that serve as beacons of hope and healing for residents across the City.

Each clinic implemented represents more than just bricks and mortar; it symbolises the City’s unwavering dedication to promoting equitable healthcare access for all.

“From the completed Bophelong, Florida, Claremont and Orchards clinics to the ongoing developments of Naledi, Protea and Turffontein clinics, the JDA’s implementation efforts aim to bridge the gap between communities and essential health services,” says Siyabonga Genu, JDA’s Executive Manager: Project Implementation.

“As we commemorate World Health Day, let us be reminded that clinics play a significant role in the development and have implications for overall better living standards of residents. These healthcare facilities contribute positively to a healthy workforce and drive local economic activity.”
