The City of Johannesburg proudly hosted an electrifying Formula 1 “Showrun” on Sunday, October 6, 2024, in the bustling heart of Sandton.
Motorsport fans were treated to a high-octane performance by Formula 1 legend David Coulthard, who took the wheel of the championship-winning RB7, revving up Katherine Street with the car’s 750-horsepower engine, reaching revs of up to 18,000 RPM.
South Africa’s deep-rooted Formula 1 heritage, linked to the iconic Kyalami circuit, came alive during this unforgettable spectacle. The event also featured jaw-dropping stunts by German drifter Elias Hountondji and motorbike daredevil Arūnas ‘Aras’ Gibieža, adding to the day’s adrenaline-fueled excitement.
Partnering with key stakeholders, the City of Johannesburg successfully brought this world-class event to life, showcasing its infrastructure and solidifying its reputation as a premier destination for major events. The event provided international brand exposure while generating temporary job opportunities for locals.
