CITY’S SUB-ED SCHEME GIVES LEBO HER WINGS

Lebohang Mataruka, the Personal Assistant of the Head of Planning at Johannesburg Roads Agency’s Planning Department, has received her laurels from earning her Master’s degree, thanks to JRA’s subsidised education scheme. The Westonaria-born and raised Lebo acquired a Master’s in Public Management through Regenesys Business School, which is an NQF level 9 qualification within a period of two years and eight months. She focused on developing the skills and knowledge necessary to effectively manage and lead in the public sector.

To express her sincere gratitude for the opportunity, Lebo says: “It meant more than just money or financial assistance. It meant recognition and validation of my academic abilities and achievements.

It gave me the confidence and motivation to strive for excellence and push myself towards my goal.

“My role involves providing administrative and organisational support to the Head of Planning. I handle a variety of administrative tasks to ensure a smooth-functioning office. The role inspired me to better equip myself in an effort to find more growth opportunities and better enhance my work,” she says.

Intrigued by the Public Administration discipline upon joining JRA, Lebo advises that she has since been able to acquire important abilities in relation to the public sector such as research, problem solving, communication, and leadership through the qualification.

The knowledge she has acquired during her studies has not only improved her performance in her current position but also increased her adaptability as well as versatility in her role.

This came through sacrifice and lots of discipline. She ended up not attending family and social functions as she focused on her classes and studies every weekend.

Her family was supportive throughout and ensured that the environment was conducive for her success.

Lebo also holds a Diploma in Business Administration from the South West Gauteng College, a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a Postgraduate Degree in Business Administration from Regenesys Business School.

She is currently enrolled for a Postgraduate Degree in Risk Management at Mancosa.

“One thing that’s important to me in my life right now is self-improvement. I apply a passion to both my work and personal life. I believe you’re never too old to stop learning, and I strive to challenge myself as much as possible.”

Lebo says she has no regrets about joining JRA, however, she did mention that there has been no growth in her career other than educational opportunity, which she insists she’s grateful for.

For leisure she loves to travel, spend time with family and explore new restaurants.
