CLEVER BOYS BREEZE PAST KINGS TO BOOK SEMIFINAL TICKET

Bidvest Wits are the first team to book their place in the Nedbank Cup semifinals following a commanding 4-0 win over Real Kings at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium in Clermont on Friday evening.

Bienvenu Eva Nga, Lorenzo Gordinho and Terrence Dzvukamanja found the back of the net for the Clever Boys, while Lesego Manganyi put the ball past his own goalkeeper in what was a tough outing for the GladAfrica Championship side.

BWFC dominated the early exchanges and went close to opening their account on the night after just five minutes, but Dzvukamanja had his attempt cleared off the line.

Kings improved after withstanding Wits’ early dominance and were only denied the game’s opener in the 28th minute through a superb Brandon Petersen save who showed catlike reflexes to keep out Sedwyn George’s volley attempt.

The visitors deservedly nudged in front on the cusp of halftime as Eva Nga nodded Zitha Macheke’s pin-point cross past Sabelo Nkomo from close range.

The Clever Boys doubled their advantage in the 51st minute as Gordinho headed home Elias Pelembe’s corner-kick and the visitors made it three, three minutes later as Dzvukamanja’s shot deflected off Manganyi and into the back of the net.

Dzvukamanja got his goal in the 68th minute. Pelembe played the ball through the eye of the needle for his Bidvest Wits teammate and the forward made no mistake: rounding Nkomo before passing into an empty net to round off a convincing win for Gavin Hunt’s troops.
