CLEVER BOYS SNEAK PAST BAROKA IN POLOKWANE

Bidvest Wits returned to winning ways in the Absa Premiership with a hard fought 1-0 win over Baroka FC at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Saturday afternoon.

Deon Hotto scored the only goal of the game two minutes after the restart. Victory moves the Clever Boys up to 33 points, 12 behind league leaders Kaizer Chiefs but having played two games less.

Baroka, who had Richard Mbulu sent off late in the game, remain in 13th place on the log standings, three points off bottom spot.

Bakgaga conjured the first noteworthy chance of the match on the half-hour mark, but Tshediso Patjie could only succeed in firing wide of Brandon Petersen’s goal when it looked easier to score.

The breakthrough came two minutes after the halftime break. Thabang Monare played a corner-kick short to Hotto who’s left-footed cross-cum-shot had the beating of everyone, including Elvis Chipezeze who completely misjudged the flight of the ball.

Mbulu thought he’d netted the equaliser for Baroka in the 66th minute when he nodded home, but his attempt was chalked off with the assistant’s flagged raised for offside.

Baroka continued to push forward in search of the leveller, but Bidvest Wits held firm as Mbulu eventually received his marching orders following a second bookable offence in the fourth minute of added time. The Clever Boys duly held on for all three points as they build on their impeccable away record this season.
