Festival of lights brightens Joburg zoo, thanks to the city

Joburg Zoo in association with the City of Johannesburg’s entities; Joburg Theatre, City Parks and City power recently hosted a spectacular Joburg Zoo Festival of Lights.

This annual second installment attracted the Whose Who of the City’s entities, dozens of families and an array of the media houses.

This German copycat event featured an enchanting collection of illuminated life-size animal characters, live performance music and harmonious entertainment.

According to the organizers, this event is geared to attract numerous local and international tourists who want to experience the festive season of the World Class African city.

On the sidelines,City Parks, MD, Brian Maduka, told this publication this is one way of trying to attract families to visit the Zoo.

“We want the families to enjoy the concept.”

City Power’s Acting CEO, Nancy Maluleke explained that their role was to make sure the lights were on for the entire duration and at all times despite the intermittent power challenges faced by the city.

 Xoliswa Nduneni, Joburg Theatre CEO, revealed that the concept was copied in Berlin, Germany.

“We sold the idea to City Parks and invited City Power to make sure there is enough power,” She said.
