FIFA WORLD CUP TROPHY TOUR CREATES MAGICAL MOMENTS FOR JOHANNESBURG

Johannesburg was abuzz with excitement this past weekend, as Coca-Cola in partnership with FIFA afforded thousands of fans a magical experience of the FIFA World Cup™ Trophy Tour.

The FIFA World Cup™ Trophy touched down on Mzansi shores on Saturday, 28 May at the Lanseria International Airport where it was welcomed by the Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Mr Nathi Mthethwa.

The Minister, who was accompanied by the MEC of Sport, Ms Mbali Hlophe lauded Coca-Cola’s efforts of affording South Africa another opportunity of hosting a FIFA World Cup™ Trophy Tour, saying that it was in line with the ministry’s objective of encouraging social cohesion.

Also in attendance on the day was South African Football Association president, Dr Danny Jordaan who reminisced on the magical moments that he shared with the late global icon, President Nelson Mandela with the FIFA World Cup Trophy™ when the country welcomed the world back in 2010.

The excitement of the FIFA World Cup™ Trophy Tour by Coca-Cola was felt across various stops in Johannesburg which included an exciting fan experience at Soweto’s Maponya Mall on Sunday afternoon. Fans had an opportunity to get close to the iconic FIFA World Cup™ Trophy, while enjoying the best of everything local.

Thousands of fans created their very own magical moments with their favourite football legends which included Siphiwe Tshabalala, Teko Modise, Reneilwe Letsholonyane as well as Daniel Cardoso. This was topped with a surprise visit by Bafana Bafana legend, Lucas Radebe.

It was also a musical affair in Soweto as Coca-Cola pulled out all the stops in securing Mzansi A-listers who performed on stage and interacted with the public. These included the likes of Lamiez Holworthy, Young Stunna, Dali Wonga, Kyotic, Darque who all gave world-class performances to the fans in attendance.

The FIFA World Cup™ Trophy Tour by Coca-Cola is an extraordinary opportunity for people to take in a piece of football history and share with each other their passion for the sport. The emotions of seeing the FIFA World Cup Original Trophy will stay in football fans’ memory for a long time.
