FIVE STAR FIESTA- BRAZILIANS GET BACK TO WINNING WAYS IN STYLE

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies regained their winning momentum by securing a convincing 5-1 victory against Durban Ladies in a thrilling Hollywoodbets Super League match held at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday.

Braces from Salome Kekana and Miche Minnies, combined with an impressive finish from Nthabiseng Majiya, provided Banyana Ba Style with a perfect response following their defeat to UWC on Thursday.

In his pre-match comments, Coach Jerry Tshabalala expressed confidence in his team’s ability to bounce back after the dropped points in Cape Town and his side responded emphatically against the Durbanites. The Chloorkop-based team swiftly took the lead in the opening minute, courtesy of Kekana, who was making her first start of the campaign.

Fifteen minutes later, Salome notched another goal, and Minnies, also making her first start of the campaign, found the net in the 25th minute, securing Sundowns Ladies a comfortable 3-0 lead heading into the first-half break.

The opponents managed to pull one back in the 56th minute, but Banyana Ba Style extended their lead thanks to Majiya’s strike 20 minutes later. Miche’s effort in the last minute of regulation time put the icing on the cake as Coach Jerry’s troops maintained their excellent record in this fixture.

Lehlogonolo Mashigo expressed her delight with the team’s much-needed response after Thursday’s disappointment.

“Everyone was determined to ensure a good result today because that is what champions do. We showed our class on both ends of the pitch and it demonstrated how badly we needed to return to winning ways. Now, we must build on this momentum and carry it forward into the upcoming matches,” Mashigo stated.

The victory means Sundowns Ladies remain top of the Hollywoodbets Super League table, having secured 12 points from their first five games. The Brazilians have scored 16 goals and conceded just five times.

Nthabiseng Majiya’s strike means she now leads the Sundowns Ladies’ scoring chart with four goals while Boitumelo Rabale has scored three times. Salome Kekana, Miche Minnies and Chuene Morifi have all scored two each, while Andisiwe Mgcoyi, Regina Mogolola and Cimone Sauls have each scored once.
