TS Galaxy missed a glorious chance to add to Kaizer Chiefs’ early season DStv Premiership misery as the two teams played to a 0-0 draw at the FNB Stadium in Soweto on Wednesday evening.
The Rockets missed a first-half penalty in a game largely dominated by the Mpumalanga-based club who remain in seventh place on the log standings as a result. Chiefs duly fall down to 11th after three rounds of fixtures.
Chances were few and far between in the opening exchanges but a mistake by Philani Zulu handed Tshegofatso Nyama a golden chance to break the deadlock in the 25th minute, but his resulting shot was well saved by Daniel Akpeyi.
Galaxy were then awarded a penalty three minutes later following a reckless tackle by Kgotso Moleko on Lindokuhle Mbatha inside the area. Wayde Lekay duly stepped up to the spot but could on succeed in driving his attempt onto the woodwork.
The visitors continued to conjure the better of the chances after the break and came close once more in the 77th minute. Shaune Mogaila burst through on goal and despite taking a heavy touch, his deflected effort looked destined to find the back of the net, but Erick Mathoho recovered well to clear from danger.
Chiefs pushed forward in the closing stages but looked like a team whose only goal in the league so far this season came by means of a Chippa United own goal, as Galaxy held on to secure a valuable point on their travels away to the out of sorts Soweto giants.
